Maundy Thursday – Evening service

Event Details

H O L Y   W E E K  (scroll down to Maundy Thursday)

PALM SUNDAY, March 24
Morning Service, 9:30 a.m.

During the service on this festive day, we receive palms as we remember when Jesus came into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey with the crowd waving palms and shouting, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! It is the beginning of Holy Week.

MAUNDY THURSDAY, March 28
Evening Service, 7 p.m.

At the Passover supper on the night he was betrayed, Jesus gave his commandment, Love one another as I have loved you. “Maundy” comes from the Latin, Dies Mandatum, which means the day of the new commandment. After telling the Passover story, we’ll share the bread and cup of the Last Supper in the social room, gathered around a table lit with candles and adorned with spring flowers. A Tenebrae service of readings and music will follow in the sanctuary, during which the lights will be gradually dimmed. We leave in silence as a sign of reverence.

GOOD FRIDAY, March 29
Evening Service, 7 p.m.
We will gather quietly to hear the stories of Jesus’ final hours and to consider the enormity of all that has occurred in Jesus’ life. There is time to be in silence and then to sing some beautiful hymns: songs of grief, gratitude, consolation, hope.
